I really like the way that this sequined collar brightens up this top. I also like how the sequins brighten up my day—literally. Driving in the car, my vision is surrounded by reflections (or is it refractions?) of light, and I must say that I don’t mind it one bit.

If fall does have to come, I like the idea of meeting it with the classic sundress-cardi combo. I must admit that the cool mornings aren’t at all unwelcome, and since I am back in school, I might as well dress like it, right? As a student, I always hated going back to school in the middle of summer. The truth is, though, that our summer seems to last until October, sometimes even November, so you’re never able to wear your back-to-school clothes, which would be way too hot. So for now, I’ll continue with my favorite sundresses and throw on a cardi now and again in order to show that I’m somewhat participating in what everyone else knows as fall.

I really love this simple mint houndstooth skater skirt. One thing that’s making me look forward to fall/winter is that I keep thinking that it’ll look great with a sweatshirt and tights or knee socks. I’ve been having a difficult time pairing it with summery options, though. While getting dressed this morning, though, I thought “When in doubt, wear the sequins.” Am I right?
Nordstrom dress, Gap sunglasses, Seychelles heels
I’ve been back in school for several weeks now, and Labor Day is tomorrow, but I really just want it to be summer forever. It really is the best season. I know we’ll have hot weather for at least another month, but there will be less swimming and s’mores and living outside. I wish it could last forever.
My Life in Clothes turned 5 today!
Thanks, Tumblr for letting me know!

I started my semester at MJC today. My brother-in-law is in my class, and he is like my eyes and ears on the ground. He told me after class today that one girl in the class said “I like her outfit,” and then another girl replied “I don’t. It doesn’t even match!” It’s pretty hilarious because that’s always my mom’s complaint about my outfits.
On another note, I just discovered the best thing for my fine hair. This powder has made all the difference in my braids! Just sprinkle a little on the braid, pat it into the hair, and then pull the braid to loosen it. Instantly thick, textured hair!
Anthropologie dress, Target belt, Born oxfords
I love how easy dresses are. They take zero thought and all of about 2 seconds to put on, and yet they look so polished. This dress in particular is one of my faves. The bright poppy color appeals to me, and I’ve always been a sucker for interesting back details.

This outfit is so comfortable and effortless. I like the semi-structured peplum top with the soft harem pants, which I got while shopping with my bff. I had just been telling her about what I perceived to be a disastrous job interview for an adjunct professorship that I had had earlier in the week. (We tend to catch up while shopping or thrifting). Anyway, I tried on these pants, and we were both really liking the whole outfit. She sold it to me as a good adjunct professor/Parisian cool girl outfit. That was enough for me, and obvi I wore it to my second day of classes.
Regarding the bag: I ended up getting the job, and I figured that I need a good “big girl” bag in order for these students to take me seriously. A professor bag, if you will. And yes, I’m quite good at justifying purchases to myself.
Nordstrom Rack top & skirt, Seychelles shoes, Kate Spade purse, BCBG Max Azria belt
I’m really liking these mint and white, houndstooth separates. (This is the same skirt from my last post). I saw these at the Rack last week, and I thought I’d give the whole matchy-matchy separates trend a go. This purse, which continues to go with everything, kind of sold the whole thing for me. The top’s a little boxy, so I decided to try a belt. (Is it terrible that I kind of wish it were a crop top?)
T.J. Maxx top, Nordstrom Rack skirt, Gap sunglasses, Nordstrom oxfords, Kate Spade purse
This is what I wore yesterday, which was my birthday. I did a little shopping with my mom and had dinner with my family. A perfectly easy, laid-back day that included plenty of floating around in the pool. (It was 104 degrees after all). This sequin-collared top is one of my favorites, and I recently picked up this skirt at Nordstrom Rack on the way to Camp Sierra last weekend. They’re having great clearance right now, by the way…
